General Job Description

*Under the supervision of a Early Intervention/Developmental Services Supervisor, the Developmental Specialist conducts appropriate developmental screenings and curriculum based assessments, and provides treatment for children demonstrating developmental delays. As a Developmental Specialist, the provider has a passion for providing caring, high quality developmental services to a diverse patient population, with a special commitment to the uninsured, low income, and the medically underserved. This provider thrives on the challenge of working in a fast-paced, team-based environment, knowing that the services provided are making a difference in the community served every day.

Job Roles

*Ability to develop, document, write and clearly communicate treatment goals, treatment plans and Home Activity Plans.

*Actively monitors own schedule. Follows protocol for contacting families who no-show for their appointments and alerts front office team regarding open slots; is an active participant in monitoring own schedule and productivity to meet set standards.

*Completes all required documentation accurately, in a timely manner, and thoroughly in accordance with department standards; in addition, documentation complies with patients' insurance requirements and FHCSD protocols, as appropriate. Meets departments productivity goals.

*Explains results of screenings and/or assessments as well as services which would address the child's need, and provides anticipatory guidance to parents.

*May complete Care Coordination duties for populations who may need support in languages other than English or Spanish and/or populations with special needs.

*May provide treatment off site, at various FHCSD clinics or other approved community venues, based on caseload needs.

*Performs other duties as assigned.

*Provides developmental screenings and/or curricular based assessments to patients, for purpose of establishing basal skills and monitoring progress.

*Provides developmental services, including behavioral intervention (i.e., positive behavior support) and developmental stimulation/enhancement in one-on-one or in a group setting to patients 0-5 years, according to the treatment plan approved by Supervisor.

*Works effectively as a member of the treatment team. Consults with Supervisors and other team members, monitors patient progress, participates in case conferencing meetings and participates in program planning meetings. Communicates client needs clearly and in a timely manner to Care Coordination. Participates, and may assist in providing, presentations for staff and patients.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

*Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Requires an active Class C California driver's license, proof of liability insurance at $100,000, on vehicle used. No more than 2 points in past 12 months; No suspensions in last 2 years for moving violations; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving within 5 years. No license revocation in 7 years.

*B.S., in Child Development, Psychology, or Education with additional coursework in special education or related field desirable. A minimum of 2 years of experience preferred.

*Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training.

*Experience with young children (ages 0-5 years) is required.

*Familiarity/use of diagnostic tests and child-parent interaction programs.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

*Ability to engage families through modeling, coaching and scaffolding techniques.

*Ability to maintain good interpersonal interactions with clients and co-workers as a member of a multi-disciplinary community health team with a diverse multi-cultural population.

*Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.

*Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.

*Basic computer literacy and ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, following up on appointments, etc.).

*Bilingual English-Spanish is required at some service sites. Fluency in other languages spoken in the Regions is helpful (e.g. Arabic in the East Region).

*Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

*Good written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with patients and family members who speak English as a second language.

*Knowledge of applicable laws (i.e., mandated reporters), assessment techniques, Early Intervention techniques and Developmentally Appropriate Practices and their applications to the 0-5 population when serving individuals or groups.

*Knowledge of cognitive, motor, communication, emotional, and social development and milestones and red flags in the 0-5 population.

$25.00 - $32.03

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
